Cadet Reunion Dinner – Buca di Beppo

What is a Cadet? The Cadet program was started in the late 1950s by Sister Mary Paul Hickey as a way for many first-generation college girls to afford a college education—beginning a few weeks after graduating from high school, they completed three years of college and student teaching in two calendar years. The Cadets went to school through the summers and through the regular school year. They began teaching in the fall semester of their junior year, completing a two-year teaching commitment in Mercy-staffed Catholic Schools. There are over 200 Carlow graduates who are Carlow Cadets.
